Riot Games - Kalista
A short in house film I worked on using assets from a previous project. Featuring the character Kalista from League of Legends. This was an extremely collaborative process between 3D and 2D.
Each shot was prepared in 3D. Several frames were then sent to 2D for paintover to achieve the desired style. Those paintings were then projected back onto the 3D models and baked onto the UVs as a texture. The UV maps would then be sent back for painting additional details depending on what the shot required. This process could go through several iterations before achieving the final look.
The character was fulled rigged in Cinema 4D using the Toon Body Rig and Facial Rig
To create the flashback shots, two still images were painted. These were broken down into layers in Photoshop and brought into 3D, with each part modeled with the image projected onto the mesh. Two versions were rendered for compositing, one from standard renderer with a luminence shader and the other from Redshift with lighting, reflections and in camera effects.
